Why Pellets? Why Now?

Wood pellet fuel has been gaining interest across America and globally. As the prices of fossil heating fuels spiral upward, and awareness of its affect on global climate and sustainability become more widely known, "biomass" alternatives like fuel from wood pellets fuel has become extremely popular.

The demand has been unprecedented. To cite just a few examples, in 2008, wood pellet sales rose 3300% for Home Depot's northern division. Nationwide orders for pellet fuel are backlogged across the country, and manufacturers are adding to production capacity at top speed. Here are some of the reasons wood pellet fuels have become so popular, so quickly:

Wood pellet fuel is environmentally sound.

  • It's renewable. Wood pellet fuels contribute to forest sustainability by recycling wood. No new trees are cut down to produce wood pellets.
  • It helps eliminate fossil fuel pollution and emissions. Since they are composed of wood cellulose materials, wood pellets generate heat without polluting the atmosphere.
  • It's clean. The waste product from a wood pellet stove or generator is minimal, as it is burned at very high heat.
  • It's pure. During production, we use high pressure to bond the sawdust and natural lignin, so no polluting glues or additives areintroduced into the mix.

Wood pellet fuel is economically sound.

  • It's affordable. Wood pellet fuel is a fraction of the cost of fossil fuels, and is not affected by artificial or foreign market influences. It can save thousands of dollars in cost over time, averaging 25%-50% less than fossil fuels.*
  • It's economical. Pellet stoves and furnaces are economical, easy to use and highly efficient. The newest wood pellet heating systems have automatic feed systems making them very easy to use.
  • It's easy to transport. Since wood pellets are "refined biomass", they transport easily.
  • It's easy to store. Wood pellets come in uniform sizes, and take up less space than other fuels.
  • It's local. Our wood pellets are locally produced and used, stimulating the local/regional economy and helping build jobs here.
  • It's patriotic. Wood pellet frees us from dependence on foreign oil.

*Biomass is defined as "any biological material that can be used as fuel- including grass, corn, wood, and biogas as well as other forestry and agricultural residues.
